Aggresive Recruiting Draws Promising New Talent to Mass Bay Men's and Women's VBall Teams
Wong to Take Over Coaching Reigns While Head Coach and Assistant Coach Get Married
- While still early in the recruiting season, Mass Bay is drawing some big talent to its men's and women's fall 2001 volleyball teams. The first few weeks have seen many returning players from last season's squad along with some new local high school standout players. Additionally, many students have signed up and called to join the program. Last year's men's MVP and tri-captain, Tony Wong, will fill in for Head Coach Michael Murphy and Assistant Coach Karen Collins (soon to be Murphy) as the two get married this September. The Murphys will resume control before the opening matches in October.
Mass Bay Men and Women Wrap Up First Year Season With Great Performance at Playoffs
Bucs Drop to Hesser College During First Round of NNESCC Championships
- Both the Mass Bay Men's and Women's Volleyball Teams lost their final matches against Hesser College at the NNESCC Playoffs. Mass Bay drew the fourth seed in both the men's and women's tournaments. The men's team lost to the undefeated and eventual champion Hesser College Blue Devils. The Lady Bucs also lost to Hesser. While the Mass Bay women automatically qualified for this tournament, the men's team pulled off this amazing first year task by knocking off Southern Maine Technical College and Central Maine Technical College. As a first year program at Mass Bay, both the Men's and Women's Volleyball Teams performed exceptionally well this season.
Mass Bay Volleyball Team Raises More Than $500 in Local Easter Seals Charity Tournament
Players and Coaches From Both the Men's and Women's Teams Join in to Raise Money for Kids With Disabilities
The coaches and members of the Mass Bay Men's and Women's Volleyball Teams played and raised more than $500 at the Easter Seals Volleyball Charity Tournament at Framingham High School. Mass Bay played from 10:30am until noon on Saturday, April 14, 2001. The team's donation goes directly to Easter Seals, which assists children with disabilities.
Mass Bay Women's Team Picks Up First Game Wins During Tournament at Central Maine
Lady Bucs Mark Historic Accomplishment With Tough Play Against Hesser College and New Hampshire Technical Institute
- Mass Bay Volleyball recorded its first ever women's team game win during competition while playing Hesser College at the Central Maine Technical College Tournament on April 7, 2001. Although the Lady Bucs eventually lost the match to Hesser 1-3, Mass Bay rallied to win 31-29 in Game 3. This accomplishment earns special recognition because the only previous Mass Bay Women's game victories came via forfeit during at match against Vermont Tech.
The Mass Bay Women continued their tough play at the tournament against New Hampshire Technical Institute-Concord. In Game 2, Mass Bay won another nail-biter 25-23. The Lady Bucs square off against Hesser College again this Thursday for the last regular season game and last home stand in the Spring 2001 season.
Mass Bay Scores First Men's Volleyball Match Victory in the School's History
Bucs Defeat Southern Maine Technical College at Home Thursday, April 5.
- The Mass Bay Men's Volleyball Team picked up its first win of the season Thursday, April 5th and recorded the school's first ever men's volleyball match win since starting the vball program this spring. The match also marked the return of 6'6" Middle Hitter, Jeff Stackpole, who had gone out with an injured knee the second game of the season.
